As COVID-19 continues to ravage the globe, ADIRM is daily sensitizing the public

In furtherance to its bid to help the entire country deal with the deadly Coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic, which has continued to spread like wildfire, volunteer corps with the African Development Institute of Research, ADIRM again visited several markers and localities within Enugu State where they spoke to members of the public on how to protect themselves from contracting the deadly virus.

With over 1.9 million cases so far and a death toll of over 126, 000 globally, COVID-19 has continued to constitute a huge source of worry to both developing and developed countries, U.S being the hardest hit with a total of 600, 000 confirmed cases and over 28, 000 deaths so far.

The International Monetary Fund, IMF has predicted global economy will experience its worst recession since the Great Depression, surpassing that seen during the financial crisis a decade ago.

In its latest report card on the global economy, titled “the Great Lockdown, the IMF described the coronavirus pandemic as a crisis “like no other” and predicted that world economic output will shrink by three percent this year, before experiencing a partial rebound next year.

“Under the Fund’s best-case scenario, the world is likely to lose a cumulative $9 trillion in output over two years – greater than the combined gross domestic product (GDP) of Germany and Japan, said IMF’s Chief Economist, Gita Gopinath.

The entire globe is apparently heading for an economic disaster, no doubt. But beyond the inescapable economic woes that await the globe is the more depressing fact that many people do not yet accept the existence of the COVID-19. As a result, they often fail to adopt the safety measures put in place.

At ADIRM, the goal has been to help inform these section of the public on how best to avoid contracting the deadly virus. With over 150 volunteers on board, the institute has not rested on its oars in terms of helping the general public to make informed decisions.
