He is a Professor of Agricultural & Bio resource engineering of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, where he served the university in many capacities some of which includes: Member of the Governing Council; Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies; Dean, Faculty of Engineering; Head of Department, Agricultural & Bio resource Engineering; Director, Industrial Development Centre (IDC), and Chairman, University Senate Committee on Research Planning and Grants. He served as visiting and adjunct Professor to some universities in Nigeria and abroad including McGill University, Canada; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Federal University of Technology, Owerri, etc. Prof Oluka is the 19th Inaugural lecturer of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) and has led several National Universities Commission Accreditation teams for accreditation of academic programmes of several Nigerian Universities. He has facilitated the establishment of International Academic and Research Linkages between ESUT and McGill University, Canada, Anglia Ruskin University, UK, and Beijing University of Technology, China.

In terms of academic awards, honours and prizes, Prof Oluka is a highly decorated Professor. He is reputed for winning the National Universities Commission (Federal Government of Nigeria) Award of outstanding Research Documentation in 2002. Other awards and prizes include Winner of the Vice-Chancellor’s Postgraduate School Prize of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN); Winner of the Vice-Chancellor’s Faculty Postgraduate Prize as the “BEST” graduating student of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria; Winner of the Departmental Postgraduate FIRST PRIZE, Department of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering UNN; Awarded the Graduate Assistantship/scholarship of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

Professor Ike Oluka is an active Member of Engineering Professional Associations within and outside Nigeria and is listed in the “Who is who – NIAE Book of Achievements” in Agricultural Engineering Practice in Nigeria. He is a Fellow, African Scientific Institute (ASI), California, USA;  Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE); Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria;, Member, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE); Member, Canadian Society of Bioengineering (CSBE) and a Registered Engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He served as Member, NIAE-NIS/SON National Committee on Standardization for Agricultural Engineering and technology development/practice in Nigeria. He is a Member of the Convention for Intellectual Cooperation of Nigeria (COFICON).

Professor Oluka’s main research thrust is in the areas of agro-industrial processing, storage and handling; power and machinery design, development and management; natural resources development and management as well as agricultural mechanization systems and development of large scale mechanized farms. He has supervised several doctoral (PhD) and Masters (M.Sc.) students and has published some books and over 100 peer-reviewed scientific research publications. He has several invited public lectures, addresses & conference presentations as well as several media appearances on topical issues of National Development.
